Ruby L. Cook, age 89, of Iola, Kansas, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 8, 2019, at the Allen County Regional Hospital, Iola, Kansas. Ruby was born September 10, 1929, north of Fort Scott, Kansas, near Fulton, Kansas, to Claude Earnest Collins and Louisa Bessie (Sheat) Collins.
Ruby graduated high school in Smithville, Missouri. Ruby attended and graduated from Mary A. Grimes School of Nursing at Neosho County Community College, Chanute, Kansas. Ruby worked as a nurse in area nursing homes and retired from the obstetrics department at the Allen County Hospital in Iola.
Ruby and James Robertson were married and had four children. They later divorced. Ruby married Carl Cook in 1959 and they had three children. They later divorced.
Ruby's greatest love and joy were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, watching hummingbirds, working crossword puzzles, and doing crafts. Ruby's highlight of the day was when her grandchildren visited. Ruby was present at the birth of almost every grandchild and many of her great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Eugene "Cotton" Collins; daughter-in-law, Teresa Cook; and great-children, Landan Dean Oswald, Zoey Robertson, and Maddox McConnaughey.
Ruby is survived by seven children, Larry Robertson and wife, Sherri, Harveyville, Kansas, Pamela Shrum, Iola, Kansas, Joe Roberston and wife, Stephanie, Iola, Kansas, Kelly Robertson and wife, Patty, Logansport, Indiana, Carla Capper and husband, Brent, Iola, Kansas, Robert "Bob" Cook and wife, Karrie, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Jeff Cook, Iola, Kansas; grandchildren, Rowdy Hrabe (Janie), Roxanne Hutton (Gregg), Shawn Robertson (Robert), Misty Robertson (Dusty), Brandon Robertson (Amy), Amy Robertson, Madison Robertson, Emily Robertson, Jennifer Utley, Robin Hyden, Angela Vongphakdy (Johnny), Kelly Robertson, Jr. (Tammy), April Robertson, Suzie Fields, Jessica Oswald (Jordan), Jayme Browning (Jacob), Dustin Cook (TaLisa), Danae Cook, Kemper Cook, Griffin Cook, Nick Cook, Megan McKarrin (Derrek), Andi McConnaughey (Jared); 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins and loving friends.
A memorial service honoring Ruby's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in Gas Cemetery, Gas, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to Wings of Warriors Cancer Foundation of Allen County, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. Helping those battling cancer was a cause very near and dear to Ruby.
