Obituary of Vera Corean Wills

Vera C. Wills, age 100, of Garnett, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Residential Living Center, Garnett, Kansas.

She was born February 20, 1919, the daughter of LeRoy F. and Margaret R. (Smith) Parks.

The family moved to Mont Ida, Kansas where she spent her childhood and attended school through the eighth grade.  She spent many hours working in the fields.  Her dad often stated that he wanted her on the buck rake with the horse as she did the best job!

As her siblings married and left home, Vera spent time with many of them helping to care for their babies.  In 1943, she was serving her country by being in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.

Vera married the love of her live, Cleo Edward “Eddie” Wills on April 20, 1946.  This union was blessed with one son, Glen Wills.  Eddie passed away when Glen was just over a year old.  With a child to raise on her own, Vera persevered and went on to get her G.E.D.  She was a top seller of Stanley Home Products and worked as a Certified Medication Aide for many years.

Family was very important to Vera. After they retired, she and her sisters spent a week together every year.  They took turns going to each other’s homes where they would usually work on a quilt.  Vera had many hobbies throughout her life.  Some of these include traveling, collecting stamps and dolls, going fishing, jigsaw puzzles, and making quilts.  She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Garnett B.P.W., TOPS and KOPS.  Vera was also a longtime active member of the ACH Hospital Auxiliary.  She was an avid Kansas City Royals and K.U. Basketball fan and attended a Royals game at the age of 97.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleo E. Wills on January 16, 1957; her son, Glen E. Wills on June 11, 2010; five sisters, Lottie Krause, Bonnie Steward, and Faye Little; Harriett Oltmann, and Mildred Hiestand; four brothers, Ray, Bennie, Melvin and Ross Parks; and several nieces and nephews.

Vera is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, with burial to follow in the Mont Ida Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vera Wills Memorial Fund to be established at a later date.
