Obituary of Mark A. Stevenson

Mark A. Stevenson, age 59, of Garnett, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at his home.

Mark was born on September 18, 1959, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Larry J. Stevenson and Barbara (Cowdin) Stevenson. As a young boy, his family lived in several places before moving to Garnett when Mark was in the 7th grade. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1977. Mark was united in marriage to Laura Feuerborn on November 29, 1980, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. Their union was blessed with three children. Following high school Mark worked several construction related jobs before going to work for his father in his auto body repair shop in Ottawa. In 1984, Mark opened his own collision repair shop, Richmond Body Works, in downtown Richmond. In 2003, they moved the business to its current location on Highway 59.

Mark was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #2680, and Richmond Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Richmond Recreation Board, and the Holy Angels School Board. He spent over a decade on the sidelines of the football field, keeping stats for the Anderson County High School team. Mark loved playing sports and then coaching and watching his children. He was an avid hunter, he especially loved bow hunting and teaching hunter's education. He received the Buffalo Award, a special award voted on by his fellow instructors given annually. Mark enjoyed several years of pursuing his love of music, singing in local bands. Mark kept a full schedule, but he always had time to visit and share stories. He loved people and was always willing to give his time or help to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, David Stevenson in 1993.

Mark is survived by his wife, Laurie Stevenson, of the home and their children, Jacob Stevenson and wife Erin, Matt Stevenson and wife Nicole, and Michaela Stevenson, all of Garnett; three granddaughters, Sawyer Stevenson, Isadora Stevenson, and Juliette Stevenson; two brothers, Jeff Holmes and wife Rhonda and Alan Holmes, all of Lebo, Kansas; and his step-father, Jack Holmes of Waverly, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio. The family will greet friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary at the church on Sunday evening.
