Evelyn Jolienne Hatcher was born December 14, 1923 in the country near Linden, Texas. Her parents were Oscar and Bessie (Corbett) Hatcher. Their other children were Rheble, Barney, Lawrence and Carl, all of whom preceded her in death.

Jo grew up in east Texas in the area where she was born. Her parents were sharecroppers. Near the beginning of World War Two, they moved to Dallas and Jo graduated from high school and worked a variety of jobs until she met her husband Roland M. Spillman. They were married in Dallas December 18, 1945.

They made their first home in Iola, Kansas and ran a small grocery store there until they sold it and Roland went to work in Kansas City for KCP&L. Jo worked as a dental assistant and homemaker. Roland eventually journeyed back to Iola where he went to work for Sinclair Pipeline.

Jo had several children that didn't survive. In 1961 she gave birth to her only surviving child, Mark Spillman.

In 1985 Rol retired from the pipeline and he and Jo farmed part time in the Moran area until they retired in 2005 and Moved to Iola. Rol passed away in 2014 and Jo had lived in Fort Scott at the Medicalodge care facility since that time.

She is survived by her son, Mark Spillman and wife, Jenny, and two grandchildren, Sarah and Jeff, all of rural Moran, a brother in law, Max Spillman, of rural Moran, three sisters in law, Velma, Max's wife, Ruth Gilham of Humboldt, and Janice Culbertson of Yates Center, and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
